This is Industry Insider: a weekly 5-minute brief with key news, interviews, advice, smart picks & follows, built for artists and industry folks alike.
👆 ONE BIG THING
When you shoot anything, whether it's a music video, content, or anything long-form, you need to make the most of everything you have.
For each setup, think about how it will look when you chop the sides off and put it in a reel format. If you can do that at the very start, when you're ideating or thinking about the composition and framing of the shot, it's going to save you so much time and headache.
Don't exchange it. Just create a flywheel out of the long form.
I think lots and lots of artists get this wrong because they think it has to be all or nothing. It doesn't.
My brother-in-law had no time, no studio, nothing. He's a photographer and with zero warning and prep, and literally just his camera and one light he had banging around, he still was able to do something that, honestly, I would have paid good money for.
While you have everything set up and you have got all these shots, take advantage of that and shoot as much as you can, including B-roll of you setting up.
As long as the camera's running you have options.
You should always be assembling a bank, a huge library, a digital library, and an archive of material that you've got.
Let's get into it.

Bring us the questions you can’t google.
Starting Wednesday, November 18, we’re running the Weekly Drop-In. It’s a free live hour where independent musicians bring their music industry questions and get straight answers from the V13 team. Every Wednesday at 2pm ET. No script, no slideshow, no card details.
It runs in our Riverside studio, not as a public livestream, so you can ask the question you’d never post in a comment section. The join link comes in this newsletter on the morning of each Drop-In.
