This is Industry Insider: a weekly 5-minute brief with key news, interviews, advice, smart picks & follows, built for artists and industry folks alike.

👆 ONE BIG THING

Your followers are not your audience.

Look at who actually saw your last post. Not the people who chose you. Strangers. People who have never heard your band, never seen your face, never once hit follow. The For You Page handed you a second and a half of someone else's attention and then took it back.

And you wrote that caption for your friends.

Here's the thing: Sean Martin of The Quarantined pulled 900K streams and 40M TikTok views with no label behind him. When he came on MAKE // BREAK, he boiled the whole content problem down to three steps you run before you post anything:

  • Picture one person who has never heard of you.

  • Work out what would make that person care.

  • Say it in the fewest words possible.

No hashtag strategy. No posting-time voodoo. No algorithm hack.

Now go look at your grid and count how much of it fails step one. The inside joke only your drummer gets. The "so grateful for last night" dump that means nothing to anyone who wasn't there. The announcement teasing an announcement. All of it written for the fifty people who already know you, on a platform built to show you to fifty thousand who don't.

Stop writing for the room. Start writing for the door.

Three seconds with someone who owes you nothing. Spend them.
