This is Industry Insider: a weekly 5-minute brief with key news, interviews, advice, smart picks & follows, built for artists and industry folks alike.
👆 ONE BIG THING
You’re told to “be yourself.” Great. Helpful. Now you’re staring at a blank page, wondering why nobody cares, and the algorithm is out there doing whatever it does when it’s bored.
Here’s the boring truth that actually pays rent:
Spend 80% of your effort on the first five seconds.
Not because you’re shallow. Not because your music needs to become content sludge. But because attention has become the toll booth. And most artists are still pouring everything into the bridge on the other side.
So, for this edition, I want you to look at the stuff you’re posting and ask one uncomfortable question:
If someone doesn’t know you…
would they stop?
Not “would they admire your craft.” Not “would they respect the integrity.” Just: would they stop.
Because the hook is doing more work than your captions.
It’s doing more work than your mix.
It’s doing more work than your entire release plan, sometimes.
What “the first five seconds” actually means (for musicians)
Not theory. Practical:
The first line of your newsletter.
The first sentence of your reel.
The first shot of your studio clip.
The first bar of the chorus preview.
The thumbnail.
The title.
The “why should I care” you’re hoping people magically infer.
And yeah, it’s annoying. I get it.
But once you accept that the opening is the main event, you stop trying to win with a perfect post. You start winning with reps.
Here’s the punchline: you don’t need to become louder. You need to become clearer, faster.
Start working on how to do that without turning into a full-time circus act.
Let's get into it.

💬 INDUSTRY ADVICE
You don’t need another “content strategy.” You need your songs to stop disappearing the second they hit Spotify. A waterfall release doesn’t fix everything, but it does bend the game a little in your favour: same tracks, smarter order, more chances for people to actually find you instead of scrolling past and never knowing you existed.
